MoMA:Demoiselles d'Avignon
Submitted by aimee_xoxo on Sun, 11/15/2009 - 23:49During this past week, I went to see the painting by Pablo Picasso titled Demoiselles d' Avignon . It is an enormously large oil painting that is of five naked women posing provocatively and sexually. If I had not read the text of the painting I probably would not have grasped the context of the painting or know what to make of it. The women in the painting are supposed to be prostitutes and inside a brothel located on the street of Avignon in Barcelona.
Visit to the MoMA
Submitted by whitney.porter on Sun, 11/15/2009 - 19:36This was my first trip to the MoMA and I really enjoyed it! I'm sure that I could go back and see even more that I didn't notice my first time around, and I look forward to visiting again to view the Tim Burton exhibit.
BAM BAM BAM
Submitted by freddie on Sun, 11/15/2009 - 19:24The performance we saw at BAM was one of the oddest shows I've ever seen. It was entertaining and interesting at some points, and mind-numbingly boring at others. Sometimes it was compelling, other times it was excruciatingly annoying. The most annoying part was definitely near the beginning when Marquise was moving in a circle and repeating the same few lines over and over and over and over... in French.
BAM Harvey Theater: Quartett
Submitted by b_montoni on Sun, 11/15/2009 - 14:56There are many ways to describe my thoughts on the performance at the Harvey Theater, but the words that come to mind are amazing and confusing. I was really intrigued by the performance and the sound effects, which were often startling. If I remember correctly the first thing we hear was an extremely loud screeching sound that made me jump out of my seat. The costumes of the characters also grabbed my attention because of the vibrant colors and pale faces due to some makeup. Each character wore a single color, whether it was purple, green, red, or white.
