College News, Student and Alumni News

Screenings, awards, panels, exhibition, and a special LBGTQI+ tribute are all free and open to the public May 9th, 11th, and 12th.

Macaulay Honors College is pleased to announce that the 2024 CUNY Film Festival, now in its fifteenth year, will take place May 9, 11, and 12 at Macaulay.

Visitors to this free event can attend film screenings, view finalist films, hear from filmmakers, and much more. Judges will award prizes to top filmmakers on the festival’s final evening. All activities take place at Macaulay Honors College, 35 West 67th Street.

One unique feature of this year’s festival is the addition of a tribute to LGBTQ+ representation in CUNY filmmaking. Special screenings, drag queen story hour, a historical timeline exhibition, and the presentation of the CUNY Film Festival’s LGBTQ+ Image Award pay homage to the art and history of queer filmmaking.

The CUNY Film Festival is the largest and longest-running student-produced film festival of its kind. It was established in 2009 by a group of Macaulay Honors College students to provide a forum for the CUNY filmmaking community: celebrate the diversity of its artistic voices, highlight its creative contributions to filmmaking, and encourage professional connections. The festival as grown since its grassroots beginnings, attracting more entries and events than ever in 2024. Macaulay New Media and Digital Content Lab Director Robert Small provides oversight for the festival.

All CUNY Film Festival events are free and open to the public. For details, lists of nominees and judges, and registration, visit www.thecunyfilmfestival.com

Programming is made possible by generous funding from the New York City Council Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual Caucus; and the Office of the Mayor; and supported by The LaGuardia and Wagner Archives (CUNY).
