Katherine Serrano Sosa ’16 (City) discusses breaking ground in construction with her firm, Rooted Architecture Studio, PLLC. Rooted Architecture Studio PLLC is a bilingual, architectural and design firm that supplies creative problem solving based on client’s needs. Helping set roots and expanding connections via architectural spaces.

Katherine, a graduate of the Spitzer School of Architecture and Macaulay Honors College at (City) discusses her start-up journey and how women in the industry are changing the face of construction.

Moderating the discussion is current student Labiba Nazrul ’23 (City) a senior pursuing her Bachelor of Architecture Degree with a minor in psychology. Labiba will be our student speaker at Macaulay Honors College commencement.

Katherine Aida Serrano Sosa is a NYS licensed architect who is native to El Salvador. Coming to the USA at the age of seven, she has set her roots in New York with a sense of respect and appreciation to her Salvadorean roots, as well.

Katherine graduated from the Spitzer School of Architecture in the Macaulay Honors College at CCNY in 2016, and in September of 2019 she became licensed in New York.

With over eight years of work experience, she has worked on various types of projects at various scales. With her experience and knowledge, she decided to create Rooted Architecture Studio as a gateway to help others understand the process of design and construction. As well as, express her design language and process. To Katherine design is spatial problem solving and each project is a resolution to the client’s seen or unforeseen problems.

Labiba Nazrul is a senior at the Macaulay Honors College at the City College of New York pursuing her Bachelor of Architecture Degree with a minor in psychology. She has a variety of experience in multiple facets of architecture ranging from traditional design to project management to general design and construction. Labiba is interested in how spaces of different scales are designed and how its inhabitants use them.
