We're sorry, but all tickets sales have ended because the event is expired.

Macaulay senior and percussionist Victoria Smith (Lehman) moderates this exploration of gender equality in the  world of jazz.

The event is part of the Lehman College 2019 Johnny Pacheco Latin Music and Jazz Festival, taking place November 13-15.

Victoria explains that her idea for the panel resulted from a combination of personal and academic interest.

“I have been a percussionist for 10 years, and in my decade of drumming I’ve come across a handful of other female drummers—even fewer in the jazz community. After having the opportunity to interview and connect with jazz musicians in South Africa via the Jeannette K. Watson Fellowship this past summer, I realized that the lack of gender diversity and representation in jazz is a global issue that needs to be discussed more.”

Victoria brought her findings to the festival’s organizer Professor Allan Molnar, who welcomed a discussion of the topic as part of the festival.

Victoria will also perform in the festival later that evening. All festival events are free and open to the public.
