Macaulay Honors College is CUNY’s highly selective honors college that inspires and prepares students to address the challenges facing New York, our nation, and the global community. The Friedman Transfer Scholars Program provides a pathway for CUNY associate students to enter a Macaulay Honors bachelor’s program at one of our partner colleges.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT:

Friedman Scholars receive:

  • Laptop for high need students
  • MetroCard for participation in the Summer Intensive Program
  • Stipend for participation in, and completion of, the Summer Intensive Program

Scholars who transfer to Macaulay receive all Macaulay benefits, including:

  • A tuition scholarship
  • Access to the Opportunities Fund to participate in internship, study abroad or research
  • Individualized advising

 

WHY APPLY?

  • Begin your transfer admission process now—in your first year. (Other students typically begin their transfer admission process in their second year or later.)
  • Earn early (conditional) acceptance to a Macaulay senior college of your choice.
  • Choose the Macaulay Honors campus that fits your goals and needs: Baruch College, Brooklyn College, City College of New York, College of Staten Island, John Jay College, Hunter College, Lehman College, or Queens College. DETAILS
  • Work with an advisor to plan the transition to the senior college you choose.
MACAULAY CURRICULUM

  • Start taking Macaulay unique and exclusive honors courses in your second year.
  • Macaulay’s 4 honors courses (seminars) feature primary research, classroom learning and hands-on experiences that use New York City as a teaching tool. Students acquire a rich understanding of the natural, social, economic and cultural forces that move our world. Macaulay Honors College instructors use New York City’s unique intellectual, professional and cultural capital to design challenging learning experiences for every student. The result: informed, connected citizens who understand their own potential to change the city–and the world. DETAILS
PROGRAM TIMELINE

Summer 2024: Scholars participate in a special Summer Intensive Program, in which they’ll complete two honors courses (Seminars 1 and 2) while learning about the Macaulay community.

Fall 2024: Scholars continue to take courses at their community college to work towards completing their associate degree, while taking Seminar 3 at their senior college.

Spring 2025: Scholars continue to take courses at their community college to complete their associate degree, while taking Seminar 4 at their senior college. Upon completing their associate degree requirements, scholars will be fully accepted into their senior college as a Macaulay Honors student.

Fall 2025: After successfully completing the transfer program, scholars will continue their studies at juniors at their senior college!

IMPORTANT DATES

  • Application period: Monday, March 4, 2024 through Monday May 6, 2024, 1 PM.
  • Admissions decisions announced in late Spring 2024
